MacMinion: a native ESO addon manager for Mac

Java Minion on Mac is a bundled-JRE JavaFX app. I wanted a native ESO addon manager for Mac that still talks to the same ESOUI catalog.

MacMinion 0.5 is out: it installs, updates, backs up, and removes addons, picks up where Minion left off, and uses Minion’s backup format so either app restores the other’s.

MacMinion Overview — what’s installed, what’s new, and what the AI suggests

What it does

  • Overview home: what’s installed, what’s out of date, libraries you’re missing, and recent activity.
  • Installed and Find More as a card grid or a list. Update All is ⌘U. The menu bar extra shows the update count.
  • Missing libraries get an Install All. Ignore or pin versions you don’t want Update All to touch.
  • Remove sends addon folders to Trash and leaves SavedVariables alone.
  • ESO only. It writes ~/Documents/Elder Scrolls Online/live/AddOns — the same Mac folder Steam and CrossOver bottles typically share.

Coming from Minion

On first launch it reads ~/.minion/minion.xml once. It does not change Minion’s files. Import from Minion in Settings re-runs that pass if you need it again.

Backups are Minion’s own zip format, so either app restores the other’s. If you keep both installed, turn off Minion auto-update so they don’t both write AddOns.

Install

  1. Download MacMinion-0.5-macos-arm64.zip, unzip, and drag MacMinion to Applications.
  2. First open: right-click → Open (signed, not notarized).
  3. Needs macOS 26 on Apple Silicon. Later updates come through Sparkle.

Optional AI

Off until you pick a provider. 0.5 ships Ollama (nothing leaves the Mac) and Claude.

That path covers changelog summaries, a digest of pending updates, recommended addons, and plain-language catalog search.

What it is not

It’s unofficial and not made by MMOUI. Not affiliated with ESOUI, ZeniMax, or Bethesda.

No account, no telemetry. Free for personal use under PolyForm Noncommercial — source-available, not OSI open source. No WoW catalog, no cloud SavedVariables sync.

Bugs and ideas: github.com/solaegis/mac-minion/issues. If you still play through the standalone launcher in CrossOver, the earlier CrossTie for ESO Standalone post is the install path for that client.
